About Us
A lifelong love of Cornwall led Jennie and her family to relocate from the Midlands to the Roseland Peninsula in Cornwall in 2011. This move prompted a change of career and lifestyle after a long career in finance where Jennie could satisfy her craving for a more creative way of living.
Graduating in 2017 with a BA Hons in Silversmithing and Jewellery from Plymouth University Jennie works surrounded by flora and fauna and the sound of bird song usually with her two canine team members, Gracie & Elsie at her feet.
Jennie carefully designs and makes her pieces using traditional handmade techniques. Working in silver and gold to produce mainly one-off designs, Jennie is particularly interested in contrasting colour and texture combinations; the bright blue of an aquamarine juxtaposed against an iridescent shade of silver which has been darkened using a patina or accents of fine gold against silver and precious stones.
Asymmetry and organic shapes inform the final designs of the work. Semi-precious gemstones introduce colour which is often key in suggesting and informing the final design of each piece. Blues conjure up coastal images of the oceanic reflections on a sunny day.
Greens invoke memories of woodland walks in the rain. Etching techniques are used to create subtle textures on silver that are reminiscent of water droplets on a leaf after the rain or grains of sand drifting on a path. Found rocks and pebbles are used to create an organic hammered finish on the silver, similar to how ancient goldsmith’s used to work.
On her dog walks, Jennie is constantly photographing rockpools, barnacles, veiny pebbles, plant forms and leaf patterns and utilising these as potential shapes and textures in her work. Inspired by the minutiae of discovered natural patterns and forms as well as the landscapes within which they sit, Jennie takes us into micro as well as macro universes with her work. The history and social anthropology of jewellery and what it symbolises to us as humans subjectively and culturally is also very important to Jennie. She seeks to create contemporary objects with significance and symbolism that relate back to our own natural environments today and what they mean for us as humans and as individuals.
